Meet Mo The great and Rhianna
‘Mo‘ retired from racing last April after a great racing career winning 5 races at Provincial level. The gelding stayed at Kim Waugh’s beautiful property ‘Mahtoum Lodge’ in Jilliby, where Rhianna, who also used to ride Mo at the track, started his retraining. He has been in full work since earlier this year and since then, Mo took everything into his stride like a real pro and particularly loves show jumping. The photos were taken at Rhianna’s lesson with Emma Mason, who is a top level eventer. It was great to see how Emma build up the lesson and Mo’s style, balance and rhythm improving with each jump. Hard to believe it was only their second jumping lesson ever! He’s so clever and genuine!
Rhianna who works for Mo’s trainer Kim Waugh, rides track work in the mornings and also rides horses at Kim’s farm during the day in the sand arena where they often kick off their racing preparation doing flat work for a couple of weeks before heading to the track. Rhianna also regularly retrains and rehomes Kim’s horses after they finish their racing career, amongst others she rehomed Mo’s half sister ‘Don’t Recall’ last year. However, Mo is definitely a keeper! It’s a bit of a family affair, Kim also used to train Mo’s dam ‘No Comment’ and currently has with Conrad, Chipper and Jared three more successful half siblings to Mo in training. All three are super types and good movers (with a bit more bling than Mo), watch out for them when they retire from racing! But I’m sure all three will win a few more races first…
Unfortunately, just after I took those photos Rhianna was injured and will be sidelined for quite a while but I’m sure she’ll be back riding Mo before we know it!
Mo The Great *2014 (Uncle Mo x No Comment) retired in 2022 with 40 stars for 5 wins and 11 seconds/thirds and a total of $167,080 in prize money, trained by Kim Waugh at Wyong.
